Pending: ethernet controller driver needed

ok, i have a really old pc (running windows xp2001 i think) which i need an ethernet controller driver for (when i check my devices it has one of those funny ? things next to it)
my mainboard is an ms-6728 2.00 and obvioulsy becuase i dont have an ethernet controller i cant connect to the internet and so i cant run one of those programs that automatically finds your drivers for u.
If anyone know a site i can get the driver i need off or a program that tells me what driver i need but doesnt require an internet connection your help would be much appreciated

PS: sorry about the lack of computer savvy jargon. if i knew it i wouldnt really need the answer to this question

Hi

Whichever way you're planning on getting the driver file to your PC, you can also do the same with the system diagnostic software here: http://www.pchelpforum.com/new-membe...r-pc-spec.html - we're going to need to know whether the network card is on your motherboard or if you have an add on card.

well, the network port is a little box attached to the motherboard. also, when i check my devices it doesnt show a network card if this helps

oh, and i wil copy the driver on to a cd-rom and then copy it across to my other pc

ok, i have the driver copied onto the cd rom (the cd rom is now in the drive of the other pc) how do i update the driver? : P

First you have to unzip the file. I'm not sure which XP flavors have it built in or not. My XP PRO does so all it takes is a right click and choose extract.

If you don't have it built in just download 7-Zip which is a free tool and works great to do that.

Then either double click on the driver file or go to the device in your device manager and choose update driver then point it at the file on your CD.

Double clicking should suffice though and would be easiest.
