I have an ACER ASPIRE 3634 WLMI laptop, which is just over a year old. I recently installed windows vista starter - and my sound driver has disappeared. I have looked on the acer website for a new driver but cannot find - I wonder if anyone can help. Thank you in anticipation. Jim.

Choose make and model and it should give you the driver downloads and BIOS updates etc.

Firstly thanks for your reply - however I down loaded the "audio" driver under windows xp for my model (there was none under windows vista, so I guessed the xp one would suffice) - I got a .zip file - so downloaded winzip - but the file was invalid, so I dont know where to go from here...

No it has to be Vista drivers.Have you got make and model of your sound card?

Sorry but I have no idea which sound card it is - I have not added one, so it will be whatever comes as standard with this model.

Download correct driver from the link I posted earlier then once downloaded it should have a self installer.
You must download Vista compatable driver.

Ok go to Belarc.com and download and run there advisour and post results back here as in sound card make n model etc.

Please check in control panel that your sound has not been muted any were.

That sliders are up fully.

Regarding your first point - as I staed earlier there are no audio drivers for vista - only for xp - and after taing an hour to download the file turned out to be corrupt - maybe I can contact acer about this.
I ran belarc advisor but it did not provide info about any sound card - it had info about the mother board - and i guess the sound is on-board - as part of the motherboard - under multi-media section it states "none detected"
