Default boot problem, might be MB/RAM/PSU/Other

Hi all,

After my last computer encounter (of the viral kind), I was bummed out so didn't touch my computer for weeks.

But now I'm forced to because my wife is tired of me hogging hers .

Anyways, to the point: My OS went down totally a few days after I last logged on here, so last night, I reinstalled it just so I could backup my important files before reformatting all my HDs and starting fresh.

The OS install went fine last night, I was even able to install my MB and video card drivers. But when I restarted to finalize those driver installs, this is what I found:

1. Computer hangs at motherboard logo screen (XfX, my manufacturer)
2. No beeps...I repeat, no beeps at all
3. The HD activity LED comes on, but it doesn't flicker off and on like it usually does, it just stays on constantly
4. The motherboard LEDs come on
5. CPU fan works

I've reset my CMOS by pulling the battery out for 5 min and putting the jumper on pins 1-2, then putting my battery back and jumper back to pins 2-3...no beeps, still stuck on MB logo screen
I've pulled the vid card and reinstalled it...no beeps, still stuck on MB logo screen
I've pulled my RAM and reinstalled each in both my slots to test the RAM and slots...still no beeps, still stuck on MB logo screen
I've cleaned out the dust from my heatsink and fan, same non results
I've kicked my computer 66 times (ok j/k on that, though I did want to)

I've done a bit of research since last night, and the only culprits left seem to be a bad MB/CPU/or PSU

Anyone with any ideas, or what I should try next?

Thx!

The one thing you didnt mention is the HD if you havent remove that and try again to see if you get past the bios screen (put a bootable cd in if you like winxp disk)

The hd could stop it loading as it may be trying to find it. The fact that there are no beeps and you get a bios screen give a good indication the MB/PSU are ok

Do you mean disconnect my HDs and put a bootable CD in my CD-ROM, then try starting it up?

It's not exactly a bios screen, just my motherboard logo screen...and I thought no beeps meant a bad MB/PSU, according to my research

Yes remove the hd and see if it goes past the screen and try to boot from cd.

No beeps means the pc is ok as thats normal boot up. They are only a guide if the psu was dead you would get no beeps but as you get a mB screen it suggest its ok but not certain

You can also try this

By following the different steps of the Boot Process, maybe you can identify the cause.

Well I just finished trying your suggestion. I disconnected all my HDs and started up my computer. No change.

Any other suggestions?
