Hello dave2, Welcome to the forum!
Yes you are correct, when installing a new motherboard you will need to reinstall Windows on your hard drive. It is pretty rare you can plug your current version of Windows in to a new motherboard with the desired results! If you require any help with the process please feel free to ask us for assistance - we will be happy to help ![]() Regards, Smokeycheech

I suggest backing up data and do a reinstall of O/S and install latest drivers for new mainboard instead of a format and reload it will leave your data intact that way.

Hi
I have installed new motherboard and have decided to let windows take over and re format the disc and re install Xp. The Bios blue screens work ok and detected that I have a HDD but when I tried to boot up it kept saying no disc detected insert CD. It would reconise CD and just halted. When I now look in the BIOS there is no hard disc detected and it wont auto detect. please advise why it reconised the HDD the first time but not now Thanks Dave |

These threads are now merged Dave as it is the same issue.
Is your copy of XP a Retail version or OEM?
