Default USB disapear after reboot, reboot again fixed

I did a reboot on a new pc I put together a few weeks ago, after which the USB devices disappeared. The mouse wouldn't work and the UPS sent up a notice that the USB was disconnected.

I checked the connections - ok. So I moved the mouse from the USB port on the board to one on the case. After a few seconds it started working. So I did another reboot. Now things seem fine.

Anyone have an idea what this could be?

Hello horse..

It sounds to me like your system finally recognized your USB ports.

Are they still working properly?

Well they have been working since the beginning. And the ones I'm using now, one off the case and one off the board, are working now. That's why it seems strange to me. The USB ports on the board stopped working after that one reboot - and came back after another reboot.

That reboot was used after an update of some sort, perhaps?

Do you have WIN update set to automatically download and install?

Or any of your other programs?

It's Win xp, so all the updates are done. And I didn't make any changes (that I know of).

As far as I can tell, the board's USBs were working, I rebooted and they stopped working, I rebooted again and they started working again - no changes just reboots.
