Pending: sata port wont enable

I have two sata ports on my motherboard. sata0 and sata1. My harddrive is plugged into sata0 when i plug in my dvd/cdrom burner it doesnt work. I went in to bios and tried to enable it but it wont let me. Any help

#1 is it plugged into the power source? #2 your dvd-rw may be broken. If it isn't either of those two my best guess is that you will have to update your BIOS, but do not do when you are logged into Windows. Be extremely careful when doing this. This is exactly what made me have to buy a new motherboard!
