From what I have learned in the past few days about motherboards, I would go with an asus. After that point I would figure out what size of a motherboard your case can fit. I do believe an matx (micro) can fit into an atx (regular) case, but not the otherway around.

So if you have a matx then you have to choose a matx case. After that you need to decide what type of ram and how many ram slots? Also how many SATA's do you need to plug in your dvd-rom, hard drive, etc.

here is just an example of one that you could use if you want an am2+ that is am3 compatible:

Amazon.com: ASUS M2N68-VM AM2+ Nvidia 7050PV DDR2-800 Nvidia Geforce 7050PV IGP mATX Motherboard: Electronics

This one already has Nvidia graphics, if you want one that you will install a separate graphics card I would recommend getting one without Nvidia.

I'm pretty new to the motherboard area, there probably is someone that can answer your question a little bit better.

Hello BobofEngland! Welcome back.

I've asked AW_3_3 to pop in to give his recommendations. He really has a feel for this sort of thing and will have some excellent recommendations, I'm sure.

Good to see you back again
