I don't have an IDE hdd to try unfortunately.

I disconnected everthing but one stick of RAM. I even disconnected the front audio and front usb headers. It displayed the same message about putting in boot disc and pressing a key. I reset and went back into bios and couldn't see anything worth noting. I tried reconnecting dvd and hdd and rebooting but it's still not detecting.

I tried manullly disabling floppy drive in bios (even though there isn't one installed) just to see if that made a difference and rebooted but that didn't work either.

I think I'm gonna have to read up on creating floppy / start up disc.

Hey durwood,

When you said the PC doesn't detect your SATA HDD, you mean it doesn't show in BIOS? If you place your hand on top of the HDD, when starting up, can you feel the HDD spin up?

I put my hand on the hdd, turned on the pc and couldn't feel it spinning.

Should it try to spin before being detected by bios?

Yep, as soon as you switch it on.

Might seem like a silly question, but power is connected up ok?

I've tried different power connectors so I assume it's not a power issue. I tried the cables that came with the case/power supply and then I also tried the power cable that came with the mobo. There are four extra pins on the SATA hdd that I'm not sure what they are for though. Also, I believe this is a SATA 3.0 gb/s drive to be more specific.

Regardless, the hdd problem wouldn't explain why the mobo doesn't detect the IDE dvd drive would it?

No, just fact finding at the moment. Could possibly be a seperate issue. Does the DVD drive power up ok? Can you open/close the drive?
