Default Motherboard not Posting?

Hi there,

Here are the symptoms to my problem:
1. on startup, USB input devices (mouse, wacom tablet, etc) and Monitor do not start up. When I shut off the PC for a long period of time, remove the cmos battery or ac adapter, and turn back on, they start up and work for a minute or two (usually just past the point of me resetting my bios settings) then they stop again. The monitor image freezes.
2. The motherboard is not posting - just freezing.
3. This happened randomly in the afternoon when i was working on a separte computer next to it and noticed the problem.
4. Power, cables, battery, and heat don't seem (to me anyway) to be affecting it.

So is it a safe assumption that my motherboard is the issue, or do you think the processor, or other component might be to blame?

Quick specs:
IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 2.6Ghz / 512k Cache / 800Mhz FSB / Socket 478 / HyperThreading / Processor
Asus - P4P800 Deluxe - Intel Socket 478 ATX Motherboard
3GB PC3200 DDR Memory
Apevia / 500-Watt power supply
Sony DRU510A All-Format DVD Recorder
Creative Labs SB Audigy 2 Platinum Pro

Any help you can give would be great. I needed to upgrade anyway, but I would like to salvage this if possible.

Thanks,
John

JYCR55 - do you have any beeps as the computer boots up?

Unfortunately you appear to be in a difficult position as it could be anything down to component level.

If it was me I'd try a different VGA card and if no joy a different PSU.

Let us know.....

Firstly I would replace the BIOS battery ASAP.
