Hi all, help please.

Just changed over my motherboard (Asus P4R800-VM) and CPU (P4 2.8ghz) on my brothers PC.

Successfully installed the Mobo and CPU, previously has Vista installed, decided to put XP on the system, so when the PC was loaded up the XP setup loaded and asked to format partition to install XP over the old Vista install.

This was sucessful, installed XP files and then went into the standard reboot to complete installation, which is where the problem is occuring.

Since this has been done the Mobo Posts but then it hangs, it does respond to 'del' being hit if done so early in the Post yet when this is done it will not enter the BIOS setup, it simply hangs.

If I pull out the HDD it will enter the bios though, it's odd.

Does anyone have any ideas I am completly lost!!!!

I would try resetting the CMOS memory...
it is done by removing the mobo battery-- and moving a jumper-- see your mobo manual

is that the specs of new mobo and cpu or is that the old stuff? if its the old stuff what did u replace with? if its the new stuff what did u take out?

Is the hard drive new?If this is an old one it maybe the issue.

Thanks for the help, I has reset the CMOS by following the instructions and also taken out the battery which has not resolved this issue.

Snoopy these are the new specs that I have put into the PC, the old setup was a springdale motherboard with a Celeron D CPU.

I am using the same HDD, just another quick one if i disconnect the HDD the PC boots fine and will even go into the XP setup, yet when the HDD is attached it simply hangs at POST or if i push delete will just have as it attempts to load the bios setup.

Would this be a corrupted HDD???

I think you may need a new HDD.

You did set first boot in BIOS to CD rom?
