Default Santiago Motherborad update

I have a Packard Bell about 4 years old which has a Santiago motherboard. The pc came with XP installed. However, it was subsequently upgraded to Vista. My computer keeps crashing and I did a search on Microsoft where there is an update for the motherboard available. However, it won't let me download it as it will only run on XP and not Vista - any ideas????

Hey tracieelam1, my welcome to PCHF

Could you please describe the crashing a bit more, for example does it blue screen and is there anything you do or that happens before each crash.

A member of our tech team or a member of our excellent userbase will be along soon to help you.

Thanks for ur reply. Yes it blue screens before it crashes. There is no pattern to when it happens. I have diagnosed a memory problem and wonder if it is anything to do with the upgrade to the Motherboard that I cannot download as it requires XP and my pc now runs on Vista.

Hello, did you run the Vista upgrade advisor before installing it?

So you have a RAM fault and did you remove the faulty RAM?

Could you please give me the exact make and model of this computer and any upgraded hardware you may of fitted please.

What update were you trying to install?

Hi JellyBean. My pc is a Packard Bell IXtreme 1907. I didn't personally install Vista it was my ex and he did run the upgrade adviser. The update I was trying to install was from Microsoft webiste and it is for the Motherboard - that's all I know I'm afraid! I don't know what you mean by 'upgraded hardware'...

Sorry Jelly Bean I'm confused. I downloaded the application like you said but when I went to run it it asked me what image file I wanted to write to save to a CD. What does this mean?? Sorry, I'm completely clueless about pc's!
