Default Dont know if mb or vid card issue

I recently tried to upgrade my CD ROM to a DVD ROM. I removed the old one from slot one and replaced it with the new one. I connected the IDE and power chords and proceded to boot up. I got a loud high pitch noise and the computer would not boot up. After trying to set the jumper multiple times I got same results, I proceeded to just unplug and disconnect the new drive entirely to see if the noise stops. It did not and seemed to be coming from the video card. Don't ask me how. I removed the vid card and the beep stopped and seemed like it was booting up normally but there was no way to tell for sure since I had no connection to a monitor. I cleaned the connections and fans of the vid card. same loud high pitch noise. It isnt really a beep like when I start up normally. I am stumped. How in the hell did a vid card become an issue when trying to install a dvd rom? Please help.

Hello Alex and welcome to PCHelpForum.

That dont sound good.

Are you sure all fans are spinning and the noise maybe CPU or graphics card?

Do you get any picture on your monitor?

Please check your processor heat sink is seated correctly you may of moved or knocked something while you were inside your computer.

Have you tried to rest the BIOS via reset jumper located near BIOS battery?4 pins with a little plastic jumper on two of them.Move it to the other two pins for a few minutes then replace on the origonal pins.Or remove BIOS battery for two mins replace reboot see what hapens for me please.

Look forward to your next post.

JB.
