Hey guys. I installed a good used Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G mobo in an old pc that I am rebuilding. You answered my power supply question a few weeks ago. I bought a new one, got Windows XP loaded, and everything seems to be running okay...EXCEPT:
1. It is not responding to certain commands such as Device Manager and Task Manager. For example, I have been trying to install my modem drivers but the machine freezes. I know the cd-rom works because I installed a few other programs. So once it freezes, I hit ctrl+alt+delete to get Task Manager up. It eventually comes up, but doesn't populate, and then freezes. When I hit cancel, the "program is not responding" message pops up and it is RUNDLL32.exe.
2. Today, I decided to look at device manager and see if I have any errors there. Same thing. Freezes, then RUNDLL32.exe is not responding.
3. When I give up and try to reboot, I get CTNOTIFY.exe is not responding.
4. Can't seem to get my internet service going on it, and my browser is unresponsive when I click on it. I thought it would at least open and tell me that it is not connected. Mobo has onboard LAN.
Short version of what I have...3.2 ghz mobo above with 2gb ram, nvidia video, sound blaster sound, 20 gb hd. I bought mobo, ram, video and sound used from single source and know that they were in working order. I installed Win98SE and then converted it to XP. I have used these programs multiple times without any problems.
What am I missing? I had to download the mobo manual. Driver disks came with the video and sound cards, but didn't get anything with mobo. I downloaded the manual. Maybe I just answered my own question....need to download mobo drivers to get these other things going?
Thanks.
