I was thinking about upgrading my motherboard to support the new graphics card I was going to buy, a Radeon HD 4850, and had a question. Would it be more worthwhile in the long run to buy a motherboard without pci-e 2.0 but with crossfire support, or a motherboard with pci-express 2.0 but no crossfire support?

It would IMO be better to get one that supports Crossfire. 2 graphics cards will overcome any (none really exists as of today) limits of the PCIe 1.0 bus. You will be able to add another graphics card if you want to in the future, which will dramatically increase gaming performance.
