Default No Hard drives detected

All of a sudden my A8S-X Asus Motherboard does not detect any hard drives. I replaced the ribbons on it and even sstarted off with a new hard drive but can't install the OS because it sees no hard drives. I've changed the jumpers in all different positions but no go. Are there any built in diagnostics for the bios startup?

Welcome to PCHF

Does the BIOS see the drive? By your explanation I am assuming it is an IDE drive, you cant just move the jumpers to whatever position you want, there is a structure for master / slave configuration on all hard drives. You should be placing in the Master configuration. Does the BIOS see the optical drive(s)?

Sorry I was out but no it doesn't see the drive in the bios. Sometimes it will come up and say "wait" but nothing happens it just freezes there. This is what I was talking about when I said it doesn't see it. And yes I know about the configurations of Master or slave. I just want to know if anyone else has had this problem and how to resolve it. I think it's a motherboard problem but how can it be resolved?

You can try and remove the CMOS battery, disconnect the power to the motherboard and wait 10 minutes. Replace the power cable to the board and the cmos battery and fire it up. You will most likely need to go into Setup /BIOS to set the time and date then check to see if the drive is seen. If this does not work and the drive is still not seen then replace the faulty motherboard.
