first time since ive logged in since posting thanks for your replies, im going ddr2 for now, wanted a cheap board since new stuff will come out soon, and i plan to go ddr3 when its a bit cheaper than now. il check both of your links out after completing this. thanks again

EDIT: ok looked at the dfi, great board, but my only concern is that it only support 800mhz ram, can i oc it to 1066 anyway?

If you want cheap then that rules out the DFI boards. I would have pointed you to the P5Q pro but you do not want Asus , I can not in good faith point you to either MSI or Gigabyte. I would actually point you in the direction of a P35 motherboard such as the Abit Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard If you can get the none pro model you will save a few more quid this board has been very good with overclocking Q6600 cpus upto 3.6ghz and it is what overclockers sell their overclocked systems with or perhaps the DFI bloodiron P35 board DFI BIP35-T2R "Blood Iron" Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard but only one 16x pci e

Yes Derek, you should be able to overclock it with ease. If you dont go with DFI, I would go with ASUS or Gigabyte, both make pretty good boards, but for the performance sector, you cant go wrong with a DFI.

Having just purchased a board myself I've done a fair bit of hunting in the last few weeks and I wound up narrowing it down to the DFI LP DK P45-T2RS Plus that I bought as well as the ASUS P5Q-E.

I found a number of good positive reviews pertaining to the ASUS P5Q-E and overclock ability plus it is easier on the pocketbook.

It supports DDR2 up to 1200Mhz.

Asus P5Q-E Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

I run the P5Q Pro and its an excellent motherboard. I have overclocked a lot of systems in my time and have a lot of pc building experience . This board has masses of overclocking potential and pretty much all voltages are tweak able including the southbridge which is often missed

There have been problematic reviews of the X48 chipsets on DFI boards but the X38 and P35 boards are rock steady. If asus is a deffo no no and this is to be seen as an interim board then I personally would opt for the P35 I linked to earlier

Derek, I have neglected to ask, (thanks to zingle for reminding me =P ) What is the rest of the system you are considering?
