Default Graphic Card Availability

Hello.
I have a pretty old computer with the following motherboard, processor and memory:

Main Circuit Board:
Board: E22M
Bus Clock: 166 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD R01-A1 12/02/2003

Processor:
2,15 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Memory:
1024 Megabytes Installed Memory

And I am currently interested in buying a new graphic card.

How can I find out which graphic cards that suit my current motherboard?
___________

Are there other things that I should be aware about, about buying a new graphic card?
___________

I’ve been looking at GeForce 8800 and 9600, would it be a good idea to spend some money on one of those, or should I rather buy myself a new computer? (For gaming)

Thanks for your time and if you need anymore info, please inform me.

Nikolaj

Hey Nik, welcome to PCHF.

Need a little more information on that board I'm afraid, but I do know enough to know that there is no way it could support an 8800. The BIOS is R1 (Revision 1), which gives an idea of when the motherboard was released, Feb 2003? No chance!

For further spec's, including the motherboard make and model, please can you download and run: SIW | Download and we can find out exactly what it does support, most likely AGP which will allow you to use the next series of Geforce card down... at a push!

Oh, too bad. But I was worried about that.

Thanks for the very fast response!

I will fill in the rest of the information you need, when I get home from school.

Or Geforce 7600gt equivalent. ATI are cheaper brand, and have become quite reliable cards over the years, but my personal preference remains with Geforce.
