Default boot freeze

When I boot sometimes the boot freezes at the 1st screen, It shows it going through the memory test then shows EM64T CPU then stops and I have to do a hard boot. I've found that if I hit DEL to enter theBios menu then exit F10 no save it finishes the startup OK. This does not always happen maybe 1 out of 5 times.

Try running CHKDSK on the hard drive.

I started it and when I returned it was done but where is the log stored? I also ran memtest and it showed no errors.

I have never found a log file for chkdsk.

Try this command instead: chkdsk /r /f

This will repair and fix any problems you might have.

Here's the kb 315265 from Microsoft which may be of help as well...

How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

try this...
In XP, open the Control Panel, double click on "Adminstrative Tools", double click on the "Event Viewer" icon, then click on "Application". In the "Source" column, look for the "Winlogon" item. Double click it and you should see the results of your Chkdsk.

Am I correct in figuring that the PC would not reboot if it had found an error during CHKDSK and would wait for some kind of response and since it did reboot it found nothing wrong?
Driver_Ian I Looked but there was nothing under winlogon in Vista, Thanks for the idea.
