It is possible that the motherboard is faulty. Try doing what I said above then putting in second ram strip after Windows installs if you can get it to install. Otherwise take the motherboard back and get a new one.

If it's freezing at BIOS setup screen - you may need to configure the ram, refer to your motherboard manual.

Ok sorry if I sound stupid here, this is how it all loads up. 1st screen is the BIOS setup screen "press delete to enter setup", after that comes a press a "press F something to setup RAID", even though I have RAID disabled in BIOS, after that everything boots up and then the "press any key to boot from cd" a hit a key, Up comes "Windows is inspecting your hardware configuration" then up comes the loading setup files with "press F6 if you need to install third party SCSI or RAID drivers", then it loads setup files, then it goes to the option screen- "Press ENTER to install Windows", "Press R to Repair Windows", Press ESC to quit" So this is where I press "R" ? Coz no matter what I press it will always hang or reset after this screen.

When you set first boot in bios to CD rom you put in disk and save and exit.

When prompted on vlack screen to press ant key to boot from CD/DVD rom then do so.

Any other time you are promted to press any key to bot from CD/DVD DO NOT DO IT.

You do this once and only once.

Still nothing. Once I got another blue screen, saying BAD_POOL_HEADER

Apart from that nothing but hang ups and self restarts.

Did you remove the RAM as DIIRE sugested in her post?

What is the number code you get with BAD_POOL_HEADER.

Did load fail safe and defaults in BIOS?

Could you also remove any hardware connected to the machine that is not needed, just connect monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Yes tried with just the 1 RAM stick.

Didn't catch the number code on the Blue Screen.

Yep loaded defaults and only thing I changed in BIOS was the Boot order to have the CD Drive Boot 1st.

All I've had connected is 1 RAM Stick,1 GFX Card,1 Hard Drive, CD Drive, Floppy Drive, and K/B, Mouse, Moniter. I'm thinking the M/B's faulty.

Oh well thanks for the help guys, I'm over all this damn swapping of hardware. Think I'll just take it back, maybe go for a AM2+ socket upgrade. Mind you when is AM3 supposed to be coming out? I've heard sometime near the end of this year?

I agree - get another motherboard. Let us know when you have it all up and running again or if you have any other problems.

Thanks appreciate all the help.

I've been looking around and thinking of either this one-

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe Socket AM2 nForce570 SLI

which is $195 NZD New.

Or switch to Intel with this one-

ASUS P5N-E SLI nForce650i LGA775 ATX

which is $178 NZD brand new.

However AMD cpu's are remarkebly cheaper than Intel over here i.e

AMD Athlon 64 5200+ X2 2.6 Ghz = $121.58 NZD New

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz #E6750 = $296.12 NZD New

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz #E8200 = $250 NZD New

I havn't had any probs with AMD Cpu's as of yet, my Athlon 3200+ has kept me going for years OC'd at 2.46 Ghz so I will prolly stick with AMD.

If anyone can tell me whether the Athlon Dual Cores are as durable and sturdy as the singles please lemme know.

Thanks.
