Default CMOS failure

okay so i have built a new pc with a q6600 qaud a nividea 9800gt 512mb a 500watt power supply and 4 gigs of ram made by ocz and this motherboard! Amazon.co.uk: ABIT FATAL1TY FP-IN9 SLII CHIPSET NV650/SLI,CORE2 DUO/QUADRO /FSB1066/SOCKET 775 PCIex16 MOTHERBOARD: ABIT: Electronics & Photo but there is a big problem...

on the start up and run screen it prompted me that CMOS had failed? and thensent me to the set up screen of the mother board which i just set to defaults and set to run in fail safe mode to get it going... it start launching winbdows xp on the load bar screen then just as it had finished laoding it flicks onto a blue screen that has a load of error messages on it saying about "something" that i dont know about because the computer resets after about 2 seconds of it being on.....

anyone know what this CMOS failure is or if thats whats causing my PC to not boot etc and how i can fix it?

Also could this problem with the blue screen have anything to do with my hard drive or disk drives perhaps not agreeing with the motherboard or something?

Hello, can you try and extract the code, example 0x000000??Or another example maybe CMOS checksum failure or some thing alike?

Ok you just built her and you want to format and get her up and running?

Ok lets get her back to bare boot and same as we did before start testing hardware.Disconnect CD/DVD rom drives, rmoave RAM all but one stick, disconnect HDD.

Possible causes:

Dead Battery - The most obvious cause.

Bad CMOS settings - When you change the battery, it is necessary to enter the BIOS setup and "Save and Exit". If it continues to do this, you may want to try setting up the BIOS to "Clear ESCD configuration data" or something along those lines. This resets the CMOS stored device data.

Bad board, bad PCI device or real-time clock - It is possible the board is bad or the real-time clock is bad. This is capable of producing the same error. I've seen instances where a bad PCI device has produced these errors to.

Bad CMOS - While is unlikely, you could have a bad CMOS. You may want to flash it with a new BIOS version (if you can). Since we do not know what is causing the problem, I cannot really guarantee the reliability of a BIOS flash. There may be some sort of major, underlying problem with your cache or the ROM itself.. And this runs the risk of toasting the board. BUT - This may fix the probelm and should be considered as an option if all else fails.
