I have a desktop running W2K. Until a few weeks ago, I could connect to the internet using a cable modem. Suddenly I could not get a connection.

I went to "network connections, right-clicked and selected "properties". I got a message stating: "explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. An error log is being created." (error log of no value to me; just symbols)

I have replaced the NIC. It is working; I can see the lights on the back of the card. When I check hardware, it is working. I have reinstalled W2K. Still not internet access. Checked cables, etc.

Can anyone suggest a hardware problem that would keep me from connecting to the internet?

I don't think it's a hardware problem.
Explorer.exe is Windows Explorer-- and is part of your operating system.
Probably means some of your OS files are corrupted-- do you have a Win2K install Disc?

reinstalled W2K from original disk. Same problem and error message. I also think it might be a software problem but can't identify anything.

Can you still find that log

I assume it is still on the computer. What do you want me to do with it?

I am sorry for the long delays-- I have been distracted by "life events" for a couple of days...
If you could upload the file here-- one of our techs may be able to read the data & see what caused the error.
