Motherboards - Server Motherboard posted in the Hardware forums; Whats the big difference between a regular desktop/gaming motherboard and a server motherboard? I've been looking at Newegg and am mildly confused. There is quite a price difference! Thanks....

Question Server Motherboard

Whats the big difference between a regular desktop/gaming motherboard and a server motherboard? I've been looking at Newegg and am mildly confused. There is quite a price difference! Thanks.

Hi Most server boards use Xeon processors and also support multiple CPU's

That's it? So could you use an ancient computer for a server(or fairly modern PC for that matter), say for a website or something...I'm thinking of possibly hosting a website for a friend, but I am not quite sure how to do any of it. didn't mean to change the subject =) lol

You can host a website on a fairly low end PC but you need to install a bunch of other stuff to host a website depending on what the site needs to run.

The PC I was thinking of has just an 800Mhz processor and 256GB of memory. 16MB video card The website would be for a photographer, so there would be a lot of pictures.

The PC would need to be faster like at least a P4. But for hosting one website it cost alot and you would need a good internet connection (Fast). It would be a lot cheaper to build the website and get it hosted.
