Hello Paul it is ok I can remove the other thread no problem.

Paul how much RAM do you have fitted?
Remove all RAM and put in one stick at a time and reboot see what happens.
This could possible be AVG8 problem.Uninstall AVG and see if that stops the freeze or lag.Or just exit the software.

I have 2Gb. I did as you've instructed with the RAM and it still froze. I tried to uninstall AVG but it kept coming with an error message and couldn't uninstall it. Since I really don't have much on the computer yet, I went ahead and reinstalled Win Vista. It hasn't froze yet so...so far so good.

Hi Paul, make sure your Vista pc is fully updated before you install SP1.As in updates and drivers.Do this before installing any other software such as AVG.

During the install of AVG you may notice a link for a patch to be installed? Then install this patch.
