Default Updating new Mobo for Quad Q9450

Hi all,
Can someone help?
Just built a new pc that holds a Quad Q9450 cpu, What i wanna know is if i can update my Asus P5N-D mobo's bios while it still has the new Q9450 Quad cpu attached to the mobo? Or do i first install a old cpu, like my old celeron 1.6. Install the updates for the mobo then install the new Q9450. Cos i have a zalman cpu cooler for the q9450, its going to take time to detach the zalman cooler.

When i start up the pc i get a message about the cpu not detected but give the name of the cpu above this message. [in Pic.]

my pc specs;-
Asus P5N-D NF750i Socket 775 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 2.66GHz
zalman cnps 9500 CPU Cooler
nVidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB
Hitachi Deskstar SATA2 1TB
Patriot 4GB PC2-6400 C4 Extreme Performance
OCZ 700W GameXstream PSU

.Thanks in advance for any help I receive.

If your current BIOS doesn't support the q9450, yes, I would say you will have to reinstall a supported CPU to perform the BIOS upgrade.

yes, I would reinstall the old CPU to do the BIOS Flash. It should be able to be done from in windows, most new motherboards can. I think thats funny though. "A bios update is required to unleash its full power" i find that very amusing indeed.

Hi all,

what if i install the asus mobos update software that allows me to update the bios in windows?
I've been reading the manual of the mobo and theirs a chapter, where it will allow me to update the bios through the internet after i install the asus update utility.
- what about, doing the update in that way?
