Unhappy Motherboard Help???

Hi. all,
I have a Asus P5WD2 Premium mobo with a P4 650 cpu,2gb ddr2 and 250gb HD, I've upgraded a few things on this,
1.copper heatsinkers for the ram
2.Zalman cooler for the cpu
3.500gb sata HD

Now the thing is, after i installed all, without any problems, it wouldn't start cos the mobo is a raid mobo and has some start up files on a floppy. so i had to install the floppy and it still did nothing. so i reconnected my old ide 250gb HD and it worked.
I connected the sata HD to a msi mobo that has no raid files and it installed fine, 1st time.
Now, I swaped the HD's so that asus mobo has the sata hd and starts up fine but it doesnt show my rom drives in my computer, when it shows, that i have 2 rom drives.

Can someone help and tell me whats going on here?

Howdy rizla and welcome to PCHF the best pc help forum on the net

What you might need to do is go into your BIOS and make sure all your SATA ports are turned on..

As for raid...You can do it with 2 SATA drives but you will need a third if you are using XP so it can put another boot sector on the third drive.. I have to do this as well...

Also make sure your rom drive are not included in your RAID setup

Thanks for ur quick reply,
i've changed the sata option in bios, numerous times to see if it made any changes but nothing. If i install the ide HD i have no problems at.

about the rom drives not being included in the raid setup? am not sure how to do that.

Q.What if, i install the ide HD with windows xp and then install a SATA HD as my 2nd HD.
could that work?

But see it should work either way... You want raid correct? Or do you not want raid? If you dont want raid turn off all raid options as this could cause problems.

Yes it could work but you need to read the links on how to do it.However SATA is the faster data transfer drive.Have you set the onboard controllers/RAID etc.
Did you set boot order in BIOS?Set boot from the SATA drive in BIOS.You also have to setup cable select? As in IDE and SATA cable select.

HOW to set up raid during XP install.
Seagate Technology - SATA Troubleshooter - Windows 2000/XP Installation Basics

Configuring the BIOS

Close your computer case and restart your computer. Your computer may automatically detect your new drive. If your computer does not automatically detect your new drive, follow the steps below.
  1. Restart your computer. While the computer restarts, run the system setup program (sometimes called BIOS or CMOS setup). This is usually done by pressing a special key, such as DELETE, ESC, or F1 during the startup process.
  2. Within the system setup program, instruct the system to auto detect your new drive.
  3. Save the settings and exit the setup program. When your computer restarts, it should recognize your new drive. If your system still doesn't recognize your new drive, see the troubleshooting section on the back of this sheet.
Note: Serial ATA is a new interface type. Some older systems may see the drive and classify it as a SCSI device if you are using a Serial ATA host adapter. This is normal even though this is not a SCSI disc drive. Many systems’ BIOS will not identify a Serial ATA drive connected to a PCI SATA host adapter. This is because a PCI SATA Host Adapter has its own BIOS which is used to identify hard drives connected to it which is separate from the BIOS of the computer. To determine whether or not the SATA Host Adapter is detecting the Serial ATA hard drive, please consult the documentation provided by the Serial ATA Host Adapter’s manufacturer. This does not affect drive performance or capacity.
