Default Any other ideas, guys?

Here's a question I posted under the title "Inconsistent BIOS beep codes"

"I bought a new GB Motherboard (ga-g31mx-s2) and everything worked fine till I updated the chipset drivers - since then BIOS has been giving inconsistent beep codes on start-up... Sometimes I just get the single beep that means everything's working, sometimes I get the code telling me my keyboard isn't detected (even though it is - works just fine), sometimes the code telling me my graphics card isn't installed properly (but it is - works great), sometimes I just get one long unending beep that won't go away till I turn off the PC. I've talked w/Gigabyte's tech support and they told me to test it without peripherals and with only one stick of RAM - did that and still had the problem (tested it in steps - one stick of RAM, then two, then added a peripheral such as keyboard, then mouse, then one drive then another, then ethernet, and so on...). I've tried both the latest drivers and the original drivers that came w/the Motherboard (on disc), I've flashed the BIOS, I've tried everything I can think of. Gigabyte is telling me I'll just have to RMA it and get a replacement, but that would leave me without a PC for far too long. I was told by someone on another forum that sometimes it's a Windows problem (Windows trying to communicate w/BIOS, but can't for some reason). He suggested I do a system restore, but I've already reinstalled the OS since the problem started, and it kept right on after the reinstall. Besides, I thought the OS wasn't involved at all at that point? At the BIOS beep stage is the OS even functioning on any level? If anyone has any experience with this sort of thing, I'd greatly appreciate the help!"

I got one response (and forgot to thank the member who responded - sorry about that! Didn't mean to be rude...), but I'm still wondering if anyone else out there has ever run across this before, and if there are any ideas on a fix?

Sorry-- but if the manufacturer's tech's are telling you the board is bad-- and to send it back...then that's what I would do.
You can't fix a hardware defect with software-- or tweaks.
You have tried about evertything there is-- including BIOS flash and reinstall.

At the BIOS beep stage-- that is the BIOS chip checking for basic function of hardware-- the OS has not even started loading yet.
The OS takes over after that stage...you may have a bad BIOS chip-- or a faulty circuit on the mobo.
Send it back dude-- it's not worth the risk of LATER failure-- when it's not warranteed any more.

Sorry.

Thanks for the input, man. I guess you're right - gotta' RMA the blasted thing... I pretty much figured it'd end up going down that way, but I was holding out for a last minute solution that wouldn't be such a headache! Shoot... Ah well, at least I'm still w/in the retailer's 1 year time frame and won't have to go to the manufacturer (I'm pretty sure their RMA process would take twice as long). Well, once I get my replacement back and installed, I'll drop a line here and let you guys know how it went! Hopefully no more problems!

Yes -- it's a PITA but if it was gonna fail- it's a good thing that it did so when it costs you nothing.
Hope all goes well for you...
Which retailer did you buy it from ?
