Default Help: system fails power on

Hi i'm having some problems with my pc,

When turned on the system shows nothing up on the display and gives no short beep indicating that it has passed the power on stage - therefore it is impossible to get into the bios

I know from the exterial that cd drives etc are operational when the pc is turned on and from the inside that all fans are working and that there is an indicator light on the motherboard.

About 50% of the time also when it goes through this, the system bios outputs continuous long beeps.

The system is kinda old (AMD 2000+ with 1gb ram - graphics card etc installed) and may not have had too much action in the past few month (could indicate bios battery)

I have checked past posts but came up with nothing - if any of ye could help me diagnose this it would be great
i susspect it could be a motherboard problem or maybe even a power problem.

Thanks a million,
Ger.

Oye, and welcome to PCHF bud

Tried resetting your BIOS? (remove battery, power on, power off, put battery back)

Is there any way you could swap the RAM sticks? It could be bad RAM (or if you have more one stick, it could be any of the sticks), also, is there any way you can grab a model number off the motherboard? If so I could possibly pull up information about the beep error codes and we could figure out what is causing it.
