Hello Paddy, welcome to PCHF.

Can you be a little bit more specific about exactly what is happening. You said everything is coming on as usual but nothing is doing much? You mentioned a few different problems, but it's not clear if your still experiencing these problems, or if you did previously. When you switch on your PC, does it seem to start normal, usual single beep to say it is starting up but your left with a blank screen? This is a PC you have built yourself? Have you manged to get Windows on this machine so far?

Paddy, does you PC beep when you first switch it on? What is the full spec of you PC (please include as much information about each hardware item including power supply).

In the meantime,

- Double check that the graphics card is firmly in the slot. Try to reseat the graphics card.
- Make sure that the VGA cables are properly connected to the PC. Try using a different monitor if possible, a friends.
- Check to make sure the PC is not overheating. The graphics card should have enough space in front of it to clear the heat away from the GPU. Make sure the CPU fan is properly connected and working. The AM2 chips can run at a very cool temperature as long as the fan is working properly, but can heat up and burn out very quickly if it is not. And finally make sure the heat can escape from the PC.
- Make sure you have a powerful enough power supply. Go to eXtreme Power Supply Calculator v2.5 (click GoLite).

Hi Paddy,

You seem to have enough power there, however no error beep during startup normally means motherboard or CPU failure. - normally CPU. From what you were describing, you were able to get into BIOS and then it froze whilst in BIOS? It sounds like the CPU may have fried at that point.

Make sure that the case CPU speaker is connected to the correct port on the motherboard, and then make sure that the CPU is properly connected. Try to reseat, and check for burning smells on the CPU and look out for capacitor leakage on the motherboard. Try your PC with just the CPU and motherboard (no graphics or memory). Your PC will normally beep at this point. If it doesn't then it really does confirm motherboard or CPU.

EDIT: Marked as answered.
