Default Doomed Thinkpad 600X

Hi All,

I have tried to resurect an old IBM Thinkpad 600X.

Originally, it was running Win98 and it had a dead CMOS battery. I replaced the battery and that was fine.

I got hold of a pair of 256mb SODIMMs for it, with the idea of installing XP (just to make it a bit more usable).

Having installed the SODIMMs and installed XP, it's not in an odd state (note that initially I booted into win98 to check the SODIMMs, which seemed fine). I left XP installing and during the last stage when I came back to it, it was powered down.

I tried to switch it back on, and it's lights blink, the fan spins, and then it switches itself off (no screen activity). I figured maybe the SODIMM (maybe just 1) was faulty, so I took them out (tried one at a time, then both). The same thing happened. I took out the CMOS battery too, which hasn't help either.

Now I'm confused. I've got it set aside right now with the battery, and cmos battery out, hoping to clear anything odd. Anybody got any good ideas please?

Cheers.

Welcome to PCHF

It's so difficult to fix these types of errors from afar. If you can test another stick of RAM then I suggest you do so....of course, it could be that the old feller has finally given up the ghost...
