I have observed my xp backup cd installing intel drivers on an asus motherboard, maybe this is causing the issue? Its expecting my motherboard to be an intel one?

In any case, Im trying a complete reformat again. wiping everything. the BSOD says things like driver corruption and bad header , etc. Most of the time , my computer refuses to POST on boot. Im giving it my best effort, but this is definitely a software issue , and Im praying to god that it doesnt become a hardware issue, because MWAVE doesnt have a good rep on RMA's.

Edit : Now its crashing in the bios. It just..... hangs.
and now occaisionally it will post , but then its just that blinking white line , and my cd rom drive whirring endlessly. I let it sit for ten minutes and nothing. Now it wont post unless I let it sit for a little while and then try to turn it on again. Fortunately the mobo came with a cd that has a copy of the bios on it. still isnt resolving my crashing issue though *sigh* it just keeps getting worse and worse. Other than that , similar issues to AW.

Its an ASUS M2R32-MVP crossfire mobo with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core 4200+.

Okay, now it refuses to post at all. The power comes on , the fans run, the motherboard light is on, but no signal on screen. When it does show me something (if I let it sit unplugged for ten mins , then plug it back in) it tells me I have a bad bios checksum or a bad CMOS , and on some of those errors , starts looking for a flash device, floppy , cd , etc with the BIOS ROM on it. Ok fine, I pop it in , it erases, programs, then asks me to restart. So I take the cd out (or leave it in, doesnt matter) restart and.... nothing. Just a blank screen again. I cant reformat, or anything. The times I have actually gotten far enough for it to change the boot order to the cd rom drive without crashing, and then restarting, it reading the cdrom (instead of the other 90% , which is just a blinking white line and heavy whirring from the drive) it hangs.

Im one sad little man right now. As for the XP , if I contact microsoft , they will allow me to use my product key (maybe) on the new system , I just have to arrange it by phone. In the meantime, xp shows as a 30 day trial. Havent touched ME yet until I can get it to format.

I am definitely sure now that it is a driver issue and it was a horrible idea to use my dell xp cd to put windows on there. It is constantly trying to install intel motherboard drivers for the FSB et al , and the asus mobo doesnt like that, at all. I think my hard drive isnt happy with the transfer either since data is corrupted within one restart. The saga continues !

I strongly believe that it is an issue with the OS. In addition , I dont think that the windows ME will do much better at all , as it isnt equipped to handle dual core. It is definitely a software issue/driver issue with the processor , and its frustrating to deal with these random crashes. Im trying everything I can and doing some frantic research. At least I have some progress made and Im able to run windows in my primary partition now. was a race against time to get all the drivers I needed and everything in. This has been a real struggle for me.

I give up , just when I thought it was running fine, I try to update the bios , and the asus cd tells me the motherboard isnt there, yet everest recognizes it right away. I restart , and start in again, and it gives strange graphical glitches in its error message.

Tried installing using a different OS and cd , and it just hangs before it even gets to the options. I try going into the bios , and it crashes as soon as I hit the delete key.... or 10 seconds after I go in. My temps are fine, the processors dont even get loaded , wtf is wrong with this computer????

After the last attempt, where 9 out of 10 tries it wouldnt post , and then on the times it did, would crash on loading xp , Ive finally put it away in the closet. 370 bucks down the toilet for a POS. I should have listened to the people who advised me to go intel , not worth all this trouble.
