Default [Answered] pci expansion slots

i am first time builder, have asus p5n32-sli preimium MB with 2xPCI Expressx16 slots, supportsNVIDIA slot,1x pci express x 16 , 1 PCI express x1 and 2 x PCI 2.2. my question/problem is, i have purchased creative sound blaster fatal1ty audio card and now that i have it, says it needs to connect to PCI 2.1 slot. will it fit in one of the slots i have, is there an adapter or am i just out of luck(and money)?

Hey th53,

Welcome to PCHF.

You have 2xPCI 2.2, so your audio card (2.1) will normally fit into anything 2.1 or above. You should be fine! It is an X-Fi fatal1ty card yes?

Yep, the 2.1's and 2.2 slots are identical in appearance. Your PCI slots onboard are most likely to have two sections, where the card has a third. I'm certain this will work, but if you do have any problems, the only thing this is likely to happen is, when you switch your PC on, it will not boot and you will normally have warning beeps to say there is a problem onboard, and you will have to remove the card again, but I'm sure you won't have any problems.
