Welcome to PCHF djdixon!

To me it sounds like a power surge has affected your PC, do you use a surge protector? A member of our tech team will be able to help you shortly.

Hey djdixon,

Welcome to PCHF!

Your XP is mad? Try living with me!!

The power problems may have damaged your HDD. Boot up your PC with your Windows XP installation CD. When asked, go to your recovery console - press R. Once you enter your recovery console, at the prompt type: chkdsk /f and let it run it's scan. It will patch any errors and/or bad sectors.

Double check your IDE connected dix, otherwise you will need to seek a replacement HDD.
