Red face Wrong Bios I feel your pain.

Hey good luck with that! I really hope you find a fix because I did something even worse!!! I downloaded an update BIOS exe file to my husbands "Gaming PC" BIG mistake HUGE!!! Well I needed a dos bootable floppy so I made one and saved it to his desktop. Now I can't delete it, it said it is in use by another program and his BIOS are screwed up!!!! What to do????? OH, by the way, the download was for an older computer and the "Gaming PC" is new with many upgraded parts and has Windows XP Pro.

Hi Welcome to PCHF--

I have moved your Post to it's own thread so it can get the attention it needs.

http://www.pchelpforum.com/New_User_Posting_Guide.htm

In reading your post -- I have a few questions.

If I understand correctly... you downloaded a BIOS.exe program to his computer and tried to execute it from the desktop ? And you think the system's locked up?

If it is a BIOS upgrade file you can't execute it from the desktop-- Windows does not understand that type of file.
which makes it very UNlikely that you did anything serious.

Try this --click Ctrl/Alt/Delete all at the same time.

this should bring up the task manager window.

at the top it says shut down/click on that/scroll down to log off "user" (whatever name is there)/click on that.

<<NOTE>>

If "user" has a password set to log onto his desktop-- you will need that password to log back on --!

Windows will log off... just log back on.
In most cases this will fix any "hung application"
If the problem is still there:
Follow the same steps to bring up the task manager

this time click "reboot" instead of "log off user"
