Default booting problems

hi to all and thanks for having me, ok well i have been having a real problem with my main pc, it will not boot at all all i get is a blank screen but both lights on my pc are solid when you turn it on (and also there is no confirmation beep to say that the hd is being read) thats it all i remember about the last time it worked right was i installed a few programs to speed up my pc and clean up my startup operations then the next day it wouldnt shutdown it would be on the windows is shutting down screen for like 20 mins so i woul have to cut the power, a few days of doing this and my pc will no longer boot, i have tried a new hd and it still doesnt work. (also i noticed when you put the power cord in the back of the pc it automaticlly comes on without me having to push the on button on my cpu and it never used to do that. can any
one help? i have recently been given a better pc from a friend of mine but guess what it has the same problem (it had it before i got hold of it tho lol)

Please help i really need to sort this out as my main pc has all my work files and docs on it i need to acess them.

Hi super_sharringan,

Welcome to PCHF.

No startup beeps? Does the PC appear to switch itself off shortly after powering on?

No error beeps generally indicates a Motherboard or CPU problem. Make sure both 24pin and 4pin molex connectors from the power supply is properly plugged in. Also try to reseat your CPU by taking the CPU out and putting it back in again.

This could be a virus on ur pc. Which in turn forced u to blow out the motherboard. All I can say is try a new MB and make sure all the connectors are down in properly. Hope this helps man.

Very unlikely that it is caused by a virus.

I haven't seen a virus to do that for many many many many many years....more likely the motherboard or power supply is faulty...even video card or memory.

Default booting problems (continued)

Hi guys, you kno i was wondering if it was some sort of virus, to be honest i have never known of a virus that could do something like that, but iam no real expert, i have been using computers for at least 10 years now and know quite a bit but iam glad you guys are around to help,

on the second pc i was given that already had this problem, i figured out there was a powerpack problem (it wasnt working working just making a high pitch noise) i replaced it with a slightly more powerful one which worked but still no booting.

so now i have 2 useless pc's with alot of useful documents and files on that i cant get hold of.

if i can get hold of the MB details will anyone be able to help me find a new one or indeed a better one to upgrade to?

any help at all will be just great, thanks
