Default computer fails to boot

Hello,

I've been having some problems with my computer. Before, I was having the same problems as Drummer has had with his boot cycles, which leads me to think I have a memory problem somewhere. But now, my computer fails to run even the simplest of boot cycles and I'm certain it has something to do with the BIOS.

I've got an AMD processor, a socket 939 mobo, a Fatal1ty AN8, and a gig and a half of corsair memory. If you need any more specs, just tell me and I'll provide. Thanks so much in advance.

Kyle

hi dunlap,

Welcome to PCHF.

Are you having any errors messages? At what point does it reboot?

"reboot" isn't an accurate term. I don't make it past POST.

Speaking of POST, I've found an issue or two. I messed around a bit with it and got the post cycle started. It kept resetting and re-attempting a boot at 2 on my post-display LED. It kept jumping back and forth between F and 2. It's an AWARD bios, if that helps any.

That's if I get the system to even attempt it. Otherwise, it just reads F after I hit the power button.

If I just flip the switch on my power supply, the POST LED shows 00, "ready for boot." I don't get it.

Thanks for your help, madmonkey!

Kyle

Hi dun,

Not certain at the moment, but it's sounds like a BIOS problem. Do you know how to reset your BIOS, normally remove the battery for 30 seconds, some have a reset jumper near the BIOS chip.

If not, some POST screens give you the option to enter EZ Flash Utility, do you get this far? Also, can you give me your motherboard make and model if possible?

It's an Abit Fatal1ty AN8 motherboard, it's been great to me so far. It has a builtin POST-code display, which has been fantastic (it helped me diagnose the last problem I had). It won't do anything beyond display where the POST process is at, though.

I've reset the BIOS a few million times, to no avail. I wish it was that simple, it would make my day, let me tell you. I keep getting either F or the boot-cycling stopping at 2 on my POST display. Somehow it feels like this would be easier if it were something really simple, even if it cost more than this to fix.

Thanks again!

Kyle

Hi dun,

one more question. What was the last thing that was changed before this started? No overclocking, or BIOS flashing?
