Default bio checksum bad message

Hi!
First time user. Help! Our computer was minding its own business running
like a good computer should then BAM! Black screen then next says Bios checksum bad. We contacted HP for support and were told that our Bios needs to be flashed after having us remove the battery from the unit to try resetting it that way (and failing miserably at that I might ad). Okay. Great! So how to do it? I read some of the forum messages that say this can be a god send or a disaster. Any help and info on this subject would be greatly apppreciated. Such as where do you get software to do this and how?

Thanks in advance,

Eileen
