Default [Answered] Windows XP Wont Startup! PLEASE HELP

I recently brought a new motherboard for my computer, and with that added a new graphics card and a new processor.
And it worked a treat!

but after about 2 weeks of "just switching the power off rather than shutting down" (I know, im stupid :[ )

Its just stopped starting up!

Bassicly when i turn it on, it comes up with the "Windows did not start propperly blah blah...." screen...

Start in safe mode
Start in safe mode with networking

Last known good configurations etc...

But which ever one of these I pick it shows the windows loading screen for a few seconds, and then restarts and goes back to the "Windows did not start propperly blah blah...." screen.

I have tryed removing the graphics card and starting then but still no luck.

I have also tryed reinstalling windows, and even after that i still have the same problem when trying to start up

If any one can suggest something that works, i will happily send some £ over paypal as a small thankyou, as a computer shop would charge me £30 just to look at it!

Any help would be great!

Hi Tunnie,

Welcome to PCHF.

I took the last line out of your post, before you started receiving a tun of SPAM messages. Also, we are only permitted to reply here.

Can you use your Windows XP installation CD. During the initial setup, you will be asked to press R to attempt Recovery. Once you enter the recovery console, type chkdsk /f

This will fix any file system errors on the disk and hopefully patch any physical errors as long as this disk itself isn't too badly damaged.

Thanks

Not sure Tunnie, all recovery CD's are different depending on the manuafacturer. Dell for example, have a recovery CD that works just like a normal Windows XP cd. Others have an image of your system at factory state, and won't give you the option to recover.

Ahh ok, thanks. So if i do get the option to recover, its really just a case of pressing R, typing chkdsk/f, and then rebooting? Or re-installing windows?

Thanks

The exact phrasing Tunnie is chkdsk /f not chkdsk/f

Note the space.
