Your usb 1 , and usb 2 are probably butting heads in there. Somewhere in the docs that came with your usb 2 adapter, it should tell you to uninstall the usb 1, or disable it. Look back thru the instructions and see if you can find reference to this in troubleshooting. If not, try this. Uninsatll the adapter , and uninstall it from device manager. Uninstall onboard usb devices, and disable them. Then reinstall your adapter, and the error message`s should go away.
Edit: I assume you have the proper drivers for usb support for 98, and you had been using usb 1. If not youll have to download the drivers for it.
