I changed PCI slots. No go. I've tried at least 3 different online help areas and download. No go.
Why won't this work?

I talked to ABS and I'll have to talk to another technition about the computer. I just cann't believe that Pentium 3 and win98se arent good enough to support a 2.0 USB.

Windows probably reinstalled the onboard usb 1, go back into device manager, right click on your onboard usb host controller and everything not related to the new adapter, and disable it. If you accidentally disable the wrong thing, just enable what you need to get the adapter to work. Ive got one on a 98 machine thats older than yours, it should work if you get the onboard usb disabled.

tried removing the 1.1 USB and left the 2.0 there. Still blue screen with fatal errror when I put in the Sandisk mini cruzer flash drive. I did as it said and "hit any key to exit" and left the computer alone. My normal destk top screen returned. I took out the Sandisk and put into different USB on the Belkin and the computer didn't recognize it as new hardware and so I check the devise area USB and noticed one of the root hubs had a red X out. When I checked properties and it didn't say disabled. Are root hubs specific to a 2.0 or 1.1 USB?
I noticed too when I restarted the computer it asks if I want to reload the 1.1 USB and I refused it and it doesn't show up on the USB devices.

No, the usb hubs will show up on usb1 or usb2 when the controller is enabled, its not specific to either. Sounds like you have one of the hubs disabled on the Belkin. You should see something similar to this in device manager now, depending on motherboard and controller.

(Redx)>Intel(r)82371ab/eb pci to usb universal host controller
(your brand)pci to usb open host controller
(your brand)pci to usb open host controller
usb root hub
usb root hub If you have a red x on any of these 4 lower entries, right click it and choose enable. This is just an example of what it shows on mine.

(Redx)>Intel(r)82371ab/eb pci to usb universal host controller This may be different on yours, depends on mb and chipset, but it should look similar. If it still wont work, maybe try the mfgs website FAQ. I use Stratitec cards because thats what i can get locally, and ive not had a problem like this on any machine yet, except when the controller for the usb1 was still enabled. Belkin makes good products and their support group, or someone else here may have the answer, but im outa suggestions, sorry i couldnt help you.
