Hi everybody,
I am new here as a poster, decided to register and post as I couldn't find a problem similar to the one I'm having with my second machine. Hope someone could help.
Trouble is with a Shuttle Barebone XPC Model SB61G2V3 I mounted myself in December 2004. Video is handled by default, no video card added.
Willing to instal the XPC Tools to monitor temperatures, fan speed, etc. I downloaded it from the manifacturer's site but before proceeding with install I decided to update the BIOS as recomended on the same page. Have't done it before, machine worked perfectly well 'till now.
First I got the utility to update the bios from within Windows
ftp://ftp.shuttle.com/BIOS/utility/winflash.zip
then I downloaded the bios update.
I followed the steps in the winflash help file, copied the original BIOS file to an USB drive and indicated the location where I had downloaded the newest BIOS version; when prompted to reboot for changes to the BIOS to take effect I clicked YES.
On power up LEDs are flashing including the ones on the keyboard but the CRT monitor can not be activated. Error message says "Monitor is in Power Save Mode, Activate using PC"
I printed out pages before proceeding and "winflash problems" lists on first position an identical one: no video output displayed. Explanation given says "...connect your monitor to the VGA output and retry", then "...consult your user manual for instructions how to disable onboard VGA to enable you to use your discrete graphics card again"
I am puzzled with this part: Instruction manual means the one for the Shuttle, right? and enabling/disabling is done trough the BIOS, right?
When I switch it ON fans start rotating, optical drive too, but I have no Video coming out.
As the Shuttle was mounted without FDD I tried to create a boot CD with the original BIOS file.bin following instructions found on
Bootdisk.Com - No success.
I tried to flash the CMOS by using the jumper JP1 as indicated in the manual, and use again the boot CD - no success.
I would appreciate if someone could indicate steps to follow to bring my Shuttle back to life. Is that possible? What went wrong?
