I first noticed the CMOS error tonight, pretty much before making this topic. It happened after I unplugged the cord and then put it back in and booted.

Ok...

Now I know I've seen this before I thought I had, but wasn't sure.

Basically, your L2 Cache has been disabled in your BIOS, most likely when the power went out.

It could very well be nothing and your BIOS is just reading it wrong - which does happen on very very very very very rare occasions.

Check in your BIOS to find a L2 Cache entry and make sure it reads as 512kb. This is not a setting you can change on most boards.

I looked all through the BIOS and couldn't find any mention of the L2 Cache. I'm using Phoenix BIOS.

I really appreciate your time and patience, and I apologize for making this less than easy.

No problems It's what we're here for!

Probably the best course of action right now would be to flash your BIOS to the latest one.

You can find instructions on how to do this at your motherboards website.

Just a quick update. I unplugged the machine and put that stick of RAM back in, pressed down on the CMOS to make sure it was in secure, and if seemed like it was.

Booted up, after a few freezes at the XP screen, no CMOS checksum error. Strange huh?

So you're not receiving the error message anymore?

That is extremely strange.

Yep. Not getting any errors during the boot anymore.

I had a few viruses that I got rid of, maybe that had something to do with it. I have no idea. Crazy computer.

Anyway, I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to helping me out. Thanks a bunch!
