Default Epox Motherboard, shorting at startup.

Hi,

I'm in need of some help as I feel I'm gonna go crazy soon, hope you can.

I have just recently purchased and Epox motherboard, model num: EP-4BDA533, It was in brand new condition when bought and is only 4 days old. I installed it and the motherboard and all hardware was working great, windows was running, everything was perfect, when without warning it lost power. It now refuse's to start again, it starts as if being shorted by the bios jumper (but its not) Then dies instantly.

I've tried changing the power supply three times, (same effect) Suspending the motherboard so its not touching the spacers (again same effect.) I have disconnected all my hardware from the motherboard thinking this could be the cause, so the only things connected were the case power switch and the power supply (and hey ho same effect again.)

I seem to be cursed just lately with motherboards as my dual processor failed (this new one is the replacement) and won't read from the hard drives or send any signal to the moniter, hence my craziness, but im still smiling somehow.

Do you think my motherboard is beyond saving?

Please help me if you can it would be massively appreciated.. Thanks a million.

Lee

hi Lee! Welcome to the PCHF!

First thing to check would be the BIOS...can you reset the BIOS? There should be a jumper near the battery that will do the trick. (Check your motherboard manual for exact procedure).

thanks for the warm welcome GarHar,

I have tried to reset the bios but no joy, both by shorting the jumper and removing the battey for a couple of mins...

I just sent an email to the supplier for an RMA Num, but I know its probably something really simple.

Hi, (prolly a silly question) did you remove the power cord as well as the bios battery?

It could actually be the battery itself...perhaps you could try picking up one (they're fairly cheap) or swapping it for another one that's in another computer just to test it?
