Default Switched out Mutha

Hi Folks

I’ve got a bit of a PC problem and I wondered if you could give me some advice?

Ok here goes…..
Its a Crappy pcworld Emachine Pc - havent got any real details at the Moment as im at work.

Diagnosed that the Motherboard was dead.

Replaced motherboard with a suitable replacement but different to original

Windows is of course now a bit confused because of the difference regarding drivers

Windows won’t boot – not even in safe mode

I cannot just do a fresh XP install because of some vital data on the HD

I have tried booting from XP disk but when I try and do a repair (hoping it will install relevant drivers) it asks for
Admin password which the owner is unaware of and I cannot find in any of the bundle literature.

If I did manage to get hold of the password would the repair option on the XP disk get the PC to a working state without removing the needed data?

Cheers

you could also install the HD on another computer as a slave and then it wont have to acctually boot up and you could transfer important data then format your hd and reinstall windows then it will work with your new motherboard. i do that same thing anytime i have a serious software problem and i need to reinstall windows to fix it
