Default Long beeps - PC won't start

Howdy,
I have a PC - Pentium 4, 2.4ghz, 80GB HD, 512mb Ram, running Windows XP.
Today I tried to start it and all it did was make a series of long beeps - about four seconds long with four second breaks in between.
Nothing showed up on the monitor.
I switched it off, then on again several times. No luck. More long beeps.
This looks very serious.
Help!
Suggestions please.
Kind regards,
Macca

Hi Newzild, welcome to the PCHF!

Mr On Line is correct in assuming that it's your RAM.

Can you please crack the side of the case open, and remove the RAM (becareful not to touch the connectors on the bottom of it)...you shouldn't have to clean it...once you've pulled them out - reinstall them.

If it still beeps at you, remove the memory, get a soft tipped eraser, and rub the connectors very lightly, and then reinstall.

If it still beeps at you - remove your video card, and reinstall it.

Hope this helps.
