Angry [Resolved] RAID Controller - "Unkown Device"

Hi Guys:

Well, my new build wentwell except for this little bump in the road. I could really use some help. Alright here's what going on. First the system:

Intel D975XBX mobo
2x WD Caviar SE 250Gb
Sony DRU 810 DVD Burner
Lite On CD Burner
EVGA 7600 GT VidCard
2 Gb Dual Channel Memory

Now, when I built the system my motherboard came with 2 disks for RAID Drivers. One said "Use with Blue SATA Connectors" and the other said "Use with Black SATA Connectors". Now the cables that came with the motherboard are blue, as are the plugs on the ends, but the ports on the board are black. I first tried installing using the "Blue Connector" driver floppy disk but got an error so then I used the black. The rest seemed to go alright. Now, whenever I boot I get a found new hardware baloon "RAID Controller" and I try installing it again through the wizard and nothing works. I also get two two yellow questions marks in DEvice Manager. Both under "Other Devices" one says "Raid Controller" and the other says "Unknown Device." Under SCSI I can see my Intel 82801 GH Raid Controller.

What's up? Please give me a hand. I tried removing the other two and restarting but they just come back.

Bill

Hi Bill! Welcome back

Have you tried to let Windows automatically detect the drivers from the net for you? I have one device that Asus forgot to put the drivers on the CD for and can only get the drivers installed by automatically detecting the latest on the internet.

If you haven't already - give it a shot.

Yeah, tried that already. I'm just praying that I don't have to reformat for a third time! Any other ideas?

Heh, you shouldn't have to.

Can you post the hardware ID(s) of the item? Also Device Instance ID(s).

These are located in Device Manager, in the properties of the "Unknown Device" and then Details.

Never mind, I got it. Would you believe it was the "Quick Resume" feature that had to be disabled in the ******* bios?!?!?! Apparently, it defaults as enabled for Windows XP Media Edition and causes the problem.

Thanks again for all you help.
