Default Problems with startup

My problem started today after my power went out and my computer shut off. Since then, I get an inital POST beep, then 10 minutes of the PC locked on the startup/motherboard logo screen. Then it will give another beep and continue on it's way.

Already tried: clearing the CMOS, checking all connections, cleaning all the fans, booting without the floppy (I have the D-Bracket 2 attached and according to the led lights, it's stuck on loading the Floppy Drive controller)

Any ideas from people more hardware-knowledgable than I?

Thanks,
Stephanie

Welcome to PC Help Forum Stephanie.

Are you saying that power was cut to the PC without a shutdown procedure or a surge protector on the power socket? If yes, then it may well be the case that something on your motherboard has become damaged....

One thing to try, altho you have cleared the cmos, why not try removing the manufacturers "splash" screen from within the bios - seeing as this is the screen that is initially sticking. You should find the option in there...if not, let us know the full motherboard make and model no. and we'll look at the manual.

It did have a surge protector on the computer, I learned that lesson the hard way. I can boot the PC (am on it right now,) but I really don't want to have to wait 10 minutes to boot every time.

I turned off the quick boot and the logo, wasn't much help. I get the memory check, good, check the drives, good, and then it sits showing those stats for 10 minutes before it loads Windows.

Hi Stephanie, I'd like to extend Hengis's welcome to the PC Help Forum.

One thing you may want to try...as your D-Bracket (I loved MSI for doing this...) shows the FDC is the problem, unplugging the drive only stops the drive from loading.

If you go into the BIOS and then proceed to enter the Standard settings (name changes depending on version of bios but it will have Standard in it) and disable the Floppy drive from in there.

Also, it may be worth while upgrading the BIOS - even if you have the same version as the latest out at the moment. The power outtage may have corrupted the CMOS memory, and flushing it doesn't always fix it.

Re-flashing this BIOS will right it's corruption if it's the case.
