Default [Resolved] Motherboard problems

Hi there everyone!

I'm in need of a little help. My motherboard has been acting funky since I installed an old western digital HDD into my rig. I've worked with my PC enough to get all of my fans running and the computer starts to boot, then I recieve an error code, one long beep and one short beep, then the computer powers down. I'm running on a Phoenix BIOS. I don't have my docs to tell you my accurate specs, but I'm running an Athlon 64 in an Abit motherboard, socket 939. I have unseated and reseated my video and modem cards. Can anyone help me? Thanks so much!

Kyle

Hya Kbsr1705 , welcome to PCHF.

Looks like a problem with youre memory i think:

Basic Beep Codes for ABIT AWARD BIOS Motherboards

1.) No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board

2.) One beep - board is working fine

3.) One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU

4.) 1 short(Beep) System booting is normally

5.) 2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error

6.) 1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR

7.) 1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error

8.) 1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error

9.) 1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error

10.) Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly

11.) Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem

12.) A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages

13.) Four beeps then machine shuts down. This is because this version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on the fan header. Make sure you attach a fan to the FAN1 or FAN4 header or clear CMOS to reset to default (no checking).

Try reseating that , or if you have more then one stick , try them one at a time.

Alright, I'm trying that. My RAM has been functioning fine, so I'm not worried about any problems with the RAM itself. I'll write back if it works. Thanks!

Alright, I tried unseating and reseating each ram stick, then running the PC with all four sticks. That didn't work. So I unseated each one, one at a time, leaving three present. Nothing. So I unseated three and left one in, tried to start with each of the four sticks, nothing. I'm stumped. Any other ideas?

Have you also already tried to removing that added HD to see if it boots then?

Other that that i would strip the pc to its bare minimum and see if it starts then , and if it does then add the extra hardware one by one to see where it goes wrong.

Alright, will try that. I already removed the extra HDD and reset the CMOS using the jumper before I posted the first time. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. I'm having this nasty feeling that it's the most expensive part that went, but maybe it's just the cynic in me. I'll write back soon.

Also, sorry for the long time between replies, been busy the past two days and have been juggling things. :-D

Ok, I stripped the PC of everything, down to nothing but RAM, processor, original SATA HDD and IDE CD/DVD drive. Still the same tones (one long, one short.) Still can't get it to work. Any more ideas? I'm beginning to think that my RAM is gone. I've been using S3 Suspend to RAM for a long time and I think it might have killed it. Any truth to my hypothesis?
