Exclamation HELP?? 2 Intel D845 chipset boards, 1 BIG ISSUE! Please advise

I work with new and used computers, and run into allot of strange issues but this is one is by far the most perplexing I have encountered and I am completely out of brainpower 17+ hours later.. it just doesnt make sense and im out of ideas.. but then again I am probably making the oldest tech mistake and overlooking something simple.. whatever it is I am out of ideas and my sanity is now at stake.. I need outside input, I cant figure this one out and I cant let it go...

Ill explain, theres allot to this one, and I will try to be as thorough as I can as to actions so far.. any input is greatly appreciated

- I have encountered a sue across 2 Intel boards D845EBT and D845GRG, each of which were post tested and verified working at time of purchase last weekend. As was an additional 'GRG I bought at the same time.

The Cpu's I had for use with the boards are (2) P4 1800/512 (1) Celeron D 2.93/256/533 each of which have been tested in other systems & are verified compatible with the boards I purchased

When I got the boards home I setup the first GDG board using P4 1.8ghz, PC200 256, 350w PWS. No Problems
But when I went to set up the other GDG same config only to find that once powered on it immediately powered off before post, no beep/vid. I switched all components but mobo/cpu and tried again, same problem. So, I pulled the Cpu and tried the Celeron D 2.93, this try lit up all case light and fans but never initialized any post, hard drive activity, and had no vid or beep.. so I concluded, dead board and moved on to setting up the remaining 'EBT board using the Celeron D 2.93, 450w PWS but to my dismay had the same issue as the GDG with the Celeron, this time I replaced each component, tried 12 different dimms ranging from PC200-PC333, and still same problem. I then tried the it with the P4, which powered up then shutoff exactly as it had on the other board.
I have since tested both CPUs on other boards with no issue, and tested each Mobo/Proc in varying configurations using parts that were pretested before and after each attempt... finally I pulled the cpu from the first system I built and had worked and tried each of the other cpus in its place, no prob, then tried it in each board.. on the EBT/GDG it powered on and shutoff prepost exactly as the other did.

The fact that the boards each had the same reaction to each cpu but each cpu did not react the same on the board, seems to imply that this is not a "Dead Board" issue but something I am overlooking as the cause, especially in the case that these are different model boards with same chipset, and all worked at purchase and all efforts so far show no reason for the issue.. unfortunately I am burnt out and cannot think of anything else to try..

Any thoughts? ...

Howdy Ramirez13 welcome to PCHF,

I see you have brought us a very " " problem, let see if we can get this sorted.
  • So just to confirm do you work for a computer company or do you just know your stuff?
  • Did you just purchase the motherboard/cpu or did you also buy the case/psu?
Because you say that these things were working at the time of the purchase can you think of any differences with the PC they were tested in?

The only thing I can think of is it could either be a PSU problem (have you connected the smaller 4pin power cable to the board as well?)
or alternatively something tied up with voltage/bus frequency but if you haven't change those settings then everything should be normal.

I recommend checking all jumper settings (if there are any for bus/voltage) as well as resetting the CMOS by using the jumper on the motherboard, this will resolve any BIOS settings that may be set wrong.
