hi everybody i'm new in here and hope you good folks can help i got this system broken. i want to repair it and give it to a child that can not get one any other way. i've did this 3 times but this one is a mess. it does nothing at boot up just a long beep then it repeats every 5 seconds or so. i no it is a hard ware falure but how to detrime what. thank you

samlewis,
sounds like to me you have a RAM problem. Take out your RAM and re-seat it.

If that don't work and you have more than one stick of RAM, remove one and see if that works. If not, replace that one and pull the other. You're trying to isolate the problem stick.

I really feel though, if you just remove all your RAM and reinstall it, your problem may go away

Just a quick thought sam.... some memory can go in both ways. Make sure the #1 pin is aligned properly... good light and a magnifer really help to stop this on some motherboards. Also, if there is a graphics card, the same applies as far as it seating correctly.

ok that did nothing. i even tried the memory in another system. toniight i'm gonna remove everything from board and put on a known working mother board. that should tell me if the board is bad right?????

ok folks i just got the word from the man. i put this thing in the shop. the mb is bad. $150 to repair. the board is an aopen 1.1ghz. at newegg i could have got one for $39. but would have had to put in myself. doing this was just over my head i think so let those who know do it right. i like this place i'll be back.
