Default [Fixed]Ram memory

Whilst trying to increase my ram memory i fitted a memory card(not sure correct name)which is 256 mb, along with two at 64,my comp shows me that i only have 256 mb,when i just use the two 64mbs it shows I have 128mb.
If i take the 256 and put it into another comp it shows i have 256mb.

I have tried different slots all to no avail.

So I am led to believe that my comp will recogonize the full 64mb but only half of the 256.
All i can tell u is that i have pent 11 comp, the mother board on the comp is:
A Open AX6LC, thats what it says on the actuall m/board.

I am curious of why its like that, its not a major issue as i am basically having a play around with the comp,to see if it can become a second comp in the house.
Thankyou.

Hi cartandpeg,

Can you post you full system spec (or at least the motherboard and cpu details) by hitting this "What's inside your PC?

Please find attached Syst Info ( neat programme).

Youre motherboard should be able to handle 384mb:

Support : EDO DRAM or SDRAM
Support ECC
SDRAM DIMM x 3
DIMM Type : 8/16/32/64/128MB
Max Memory : 384MB

http://global.aopen.com.tw/Products/mb/ax6lc.htm

And is it the right type of memory?

Default Thanks Joe

Thanks Joe,
after reading the specs about the mother board,it could be the wrong type memory, thats hoping I read it right.

SDRAM DIMM x 3
DIMM Type : 8/16/32/64/128MB
Max Memory : 384MB

Would it be as follows
Sdram has three slots,it will take only the DIMM Type as above and max memory 384.
I need to put in 3 x 128 to get max memory and I can sort of mix ie:64x2 and 128x1.

By me putting in the 256x1 it will only read the max of 128?

Thanks Joe

Yup , that sounds correct. Youre motherboard cant handle the 256mb stick , to get to the max of 384mb you'll need 3 sticks of 128mb.
